The Executive Committee members of the Scottish Ploughing Championships are disappointed to announce the cancellation of this year’s event scheduled for 23rd and 24th October.
Scotland has not yet moved into Phase 4, which allows large gatherings, and the timescales available do not allow for the organisation of an event which meets the high standard to which we aspire.
Members have spent a considerable amount of time researching the Scottish Government guidelines and legal requirements of running the event to ensure the health and safety of all attendees. In addition to the onerous but necessary record-keeping and paperwork involved the committee has had to factor in the risk of the imposition of a local lockdown in October after expenditure has been incurred and is committed which could risk the future viability of the organisation.
We understand that many people will be disappointed but rest assured, we are working on some new ideas for the winter months and will announce these in due course.
Confirmed Scottish Representatives for the 2020 European Reversible, European Vintage and Five Nations will go forward as the 2021 Scottish representatives for these events. Once the Six Nations Vintage and Classic match details are available those who qualified in 2019 to represent Scotland will be contacted. Details of a qualifier for the 2021 World Ploughing Championships (to be held in the Republic of Ireland in September) will be announced in due course.
We are fortunate that our excellent host, Andrew Cuthbertson, is able to host the 58th Scottish Ploughing Championships and Five Nations Challenge on 22nd & 23rd October 2021 and we look forward to welcoming you to Ayrshire.
